A newspaper affiliated to Assad regime reported on Sunday the Syrian minister of Education "Hazwan al-Wizz" saying that the ministry of Education started developing the subject of Religious Education in Syria, explaining that religious extremism is a result of ignorance rather than religion.
Assad's Grand Mufti "Ahmad Hassoun" has called since 2013 to cancel the subject of religious education and rather focus on the education that enhances the sense of nationalism in students in order to get rid of the mentality of sectarianism and self-interest.
al-Wizz confirmed that the amendments on the subject of religious education will be applied gradually starting from the next academic year and the application will cover all school stages within four years.
It's worth mentioning that the Ministry of Education has made a number of amendments in the subject of religious education and history, for example, they removed the title of al-Fateh, which means "the conqueror" from the name of the Ottoman Sultan "Muhammad al-Fateh" to become "Muhammad the Second" and replaced "The conquest of Constantinople" with "The Entry of Constantinople".
