Nowadays, Syrians celebrate the seventh month of Ramadan under the shadow of Assad’s regime war against civilians. Ramadan this year does not seem different from other months in Hama countryside that appears to be excluded from the de-escalation memorandum signed by Russia, Turkey, and Iran.
Media activist Ahmad al-Hamwi indicated that 3 civilians had been killed in Hammada Omar and 2 others in al-Khdaira along the past few days due to Assad’s regime and Russian airstrikes, whereas dozens of civilians left their homes due to a massive military action against their villages.
The activist also highlighted the aggravated sufferings of civilians with the arrival of Ramadan due to the increase of the prices of basic foodstuffs and the scarcity of medicines.
Mohammad Zaytoun from Latamina Youth Group said, “Hama northern countryside has witnessed a continued artillery shelling, where dozens of shells and missiles have been fired at al-Latamina, Kafr Zita, killing two civilians on Thursday evening in al-Latamina.”
“The circumstances of residents in Hama southern countryside is not different in Ramadan due to the regime’s siege, power and water outage, and the shortage of humanitarian outlets,” added Zayton, indicating that “despite the availability of some foodstuffs through a number of merchants, the prices are too high for most families.”
Highlighting the situation in Hama western countryside, activist Majed al-Hamwi said, “the regime forces are targeting the villages and towns of Zyara, Sarmaniyya, Qarqour, and Khurbat al-Naqoos almost on a daily basis, which causes massive displacements of civilians amid deteriorated living circumstances and absence of basic services.”
Bassem al-Ammouri, a resident from Kafr Zita, complained of “the absence of traditions that Hama residents, like other Syrians, used to follow in Ramadan” adding that “war deprived the new generations of the intimate atmosphere of the holy month.”
