Assad’s regime has recently established a customs crossing at the entrance of liberated areas in Daraa.
To enter the liberated areas, one must pay a loyalty at the crossing, which adds raises the prices of the already expensive supplies due to the approach of Ramadan.
Abu Mohammad, a head of a family expressed his concern of an astronomical rise in the prices of different kinds of materials, especially fuel and gas due the regime restrictions of their entry.
Om Fadi, a widowed mother of three children was more optimistic. She said that despite the rocketing prices in Ramadan, there are enormous inflows of donations for the needy people.
For small merchants who walk around markets with their stalls, Ramadan is an important commercial season. One of those is Fadi from Daraa. He said that the rise in good prices raises the profit of merchants too. In Ramadan, Shadi earns three times as much as he normally earns in other months.
Ramadan used to be a holy month in which relatives and friends gather. However, the recent years of war changed a lot of the peculiarities of this month as every Syrian family lacks at least one member who has either been killed or detained or has left the country.
