Russian military police have evacuated their positions in the city of Saraqib, in Idlib's eastern countryside, following renewed clashes on the city's outskirts.
The Russian military police deployed recently in the city to secure the M5 international highway have withdrawn towards the city of Maarat al-Numan in the southern countryside of Idlib, as clashes have renewed between opposition factions and Turkish troops on the first side, and Assad regime forces with Iranian militias on the other side, Baladi News correspondent reported.
Syrian opposition factions, backed by Turkish troops have recaptured a village adjacent to Saraqib city, and are attempting to advance towards Saraqib city which has witnessed fierce battles recently, Baladi correspondent added.
The Russian military police were deployed along the M5 highway that links Damascus to Aleppo, whereas Turkey rejected that deployment and called on Russian troops as well as Assad regime forces to withdraw beyond the Turkish observation posts deployed in the countryside of Aleppo, Idlib and Hama, which areas are known as the fourth de-escalation zone according to Sochi agreement, signed by Russia and Turkey in 2018.
