Assuweidaa residents protest deteriorating living conditions in Syria

BALADI NEWS

Activists in Assuweidaa said that tens of residents protested in front of the governorate building against the deteriorating living conditions and high prices within areas under control of the regime, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reports.

The demonstrators shouted a slogan: "We want to live, we want to live," according to activists.

This spike in goods and foodstuff prices coincides with a sharp fall in the exchange rate of the Syrian pound against the U.S. dollar. In the past few days, the exchange rate of one USD exceeded 1,000 SYL.

In connection to this, tens of demonstrators blocked the road to the square of Shahbaa town in Assuweidaa countryside for the same reasons, urging people in the streets to participate in the demonstrations.
