Al-Qubaisiat…the background performers in Syria's "staged" elections

Sama Masoud, Baladi News

Al-Qubaisiat group is back again on the Syrian stage, and the first character to appear is Mrs. Farah Hamsho, a Syrian lady who belongs to a religious group loyal to the Syrian regime known as the "Al-Qubaisiat ".

Mrs, Hamsho ran to the parliamentary elections representing category (B) in Damascus. The images of her fellow members of Al-Qubaisiat group spread along social networking sites showing them exercising their "democratic" right and duty to take part in the elections weather as candidates or voters within the legislative parliamentary elections that took place in Damascus.

Doctor Abdul Majeed Al-Waisy, a researcher in Syrian Islamic groups said that "The importance of Al-Qubaisiat group in the legislative parliamentary elections is resulting from Assad's need for a religious support which came from women this time to present himself as the hero who rescued Syria from intellectual fanaticism".

According to Dr. Al-Waisy "Al-Qubaisiat is a Sufi group, and Sufis approach Allah by obeying the ruler due to their conviction that disobeying him is a great guilt and a sedition that disunites Muslims. He went on saying: "The paradox is that Sufis never interfere in politics that's why all rulers love them and establish covert alliance with them as they are just what a ruler is looking for", Dr. Al-Waisy added.

Dr. Al-Waisy believes that the dangerous part of the participation of Al-Qubaisiat in the legislative elections is that "they enter the political turmoil for the sake of an unjust dictator, which will affect the uneducated Muslim youth making them follow their suit". "They diverted from asceticism and love of the afterlife to clinging to this world and defending the unjust ruler, raising him to the level of God, he added.

Al-Qubaisiat are Assad's ambassadors in the parliament

The candidate Farah Hamsho is the ambassador of Al-Qubaisiat in the Parliament and her slogans did not differ in essence from the rest of the mysterious and incomprehensible slogans of other candidates. She announced that her goal of running for the parliament is to increase the rules that ensures the development of women on the one hand, and seeking to reject extremism and to consolidate ethics on the other hand. Mrs. Hamsho did not state any goal to express her religious attitude as showed in her character and said that she belongs to the "religious youth group" with no information about this team and its activities on the ground. Some observers say that she probably meant students of religious institutes whose photographs were leaked previously in the graduation celebrations.
