Asharq Al-awsat newspaper published a report says the Director General of Hejaz Railway in Damascus Ali Hassanein revealed that his firms received the first offer from the Iranian side to implement the suburban train project, which links Damascus to its countryside.
The Iranian company, Melli Sakhteman, submitted a proposal through the regime-linked Syrian Investment Authority to implement the suburban train project, linking Damascus to its environs, according to the newspaper.
Hassanein said that he would hold a meeting with representatives of the company to discuss the project and its details.
Meanwhile, Governor of Damascus countryside Alaa Munir Ibrahim has met with a Russian delegation representing the rural province of the Russian capital, Moscow, to discuss a twinning between the rural areas of Damascus and Moscow, the report read.
Al-Watan newspaper, which is close to the regime, said that the Russian delegation requested the conclusion of contracts between the two parties for the export of vegetables and fruits from Damascus countryside, especially apples, cherries, peaches, potatoes and others.
The Russian side, for its part, expressed its readiness to supply agricultural machines of various types to the province of Damascus countryside and implement projects for agricultural establishments such as feed and others.
The governor of Damascus countryside proposed the establishment of a joint feed company between the two parties, based in his area. He also asked the Russian side to support the rehabilitation of some feed plants mechanically and import quantities of Russian wheat.
The Russian delegation visited Damascus suburb of Sargaya on Monday to inspect the sorting, packaging and packing mechanisms of the region's famous fruits such as cherries, plums, peaches and apples. It also visited al-Kaswa in the southern Damascus countryside area to inspect the packing process of garlic and onions.
